Rape Culture is an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalised and excused in the media and popular culture. I grew up in the Caribbean. When most people around the world think of the what comes to their mind is beauty, vibrancy, delicious cuisine, sun, sea, infectious music and a chilled out vibe. While these things are true of the Caribbean and while I am forever proud to be a Caribbean woman, there is a dark and incredibly ugly side which we try our best to hide, but which needs to be it up in great big spot lights for the world to see in all its disgraceful glory!! I am from Trinidad, so I speak specifically with reference to Trinidad BUT it is not unique to this island, by any means.

So you think you are a bad mom?
When Yanice was 3 years old he spent 5 days in hospital. My World Gone Mad
Today, the day before Ash Wednesday, in my beautiful, unique, cultural island of Trinidad and Tobago, is Carnival Tuesday. A celebration, not to be confused with any of the half-baked imitations, is a celebration of our freedom – freedom of the flesh, of the mind, body and soul. A celebration of our art forms, a… Continue reading My World Gone Mad

PPD Awareness
So, unbelievably, people are actually questioning whether post-partum depression is a thing and we, the enlightened folk are having to defend its existence. Really? Something isn't right in the world when intelligence always has to argue with stupid. If you have never had a baby and you want to judge, please take several, uncomfortable seats… Continue reading PPD Awareness
